Payroll Systems Analyst

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:  Lead functional support for Workday payroll system, WorkForce time and attendance system, and payroll interfaces to ensure automated systems support goals and objectives of payroll department.  Analyze procedural and system problems and make effective recommendations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Provide functional support to corporate and field payroll users of the Workday and WorkForce payroll systems; research and troubleshoot payroll problems/discrepancies not resolvable at lower levels. Provide directions on system functionality and payroll processing.

Ensure timely electronic transmission of all payroll files to appropriate entities (e.g., ADP Empyrean, Health Equity, Transamerica, TALX, credit unions).  Data transmitted has to be complete and accurate.  Ensure receipt of files by third parties. Full responsibility over Payroll interface to Accounts Payable.  Ensure payments are sent to third parties, along with appropriate documents.  Ensure automated payroll interface to AP system is properly working. Ensure ADP garnishment process loads daily and resolves any exceptions.

Provide system training, as needed, to new and existing payroll personnel.

Test changes, validate results, and drive closure of Workday/WorkForce patches and customizations.  Includes developing test plan and test scripts; conducting tests using sample data and documenting test results and monitoring post-implementation results.

 Assist in the development and implementation of best practices for Payroll; develop and implement strategies to maximize software functionality; support payroll-related systems initiatives.

Develop and document process flows and system procedures for the use of corporate and field payrolls.  Review and update user guides on an annual basis.

Prepare quarterly tax reports not supported by third party tax filing agency. Provide tax reports and information for independent audits.

  

MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • College degree in business or related area, or equivalent experience
  • 7 years' payroll experience
  • Working knowledge of automated payroll and time & attendance systems
  • Working knowledge of IRS/DOL laws and regulations applicable to payroll, garnishments, and year-end processing
  • Working knowledge of payroll taxes
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing, and email applications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and data integrity
  • Ability to work independently handle multiple tasks

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with Workday systems
  • Certified Payroll Professional
  • Accounting background
