Plan and perform the design, development, modification, analysis, documentation, testing, and tuning of complex databases and their environments. Monitor production databases and adjust as required to maintain high availability, reliability and performance. Ensure database backups are correctly designed and occur at appropriate intervals. Support, upgrade and refresh multiple database instances as required.

Manage the appropriate vendor software patches to ensure successful testing and implementation into the respective environments as required by vendors and functional users and approved by IT management.

Provide expert consultation to application developers, application service teams, and others on database and data access technology use. Provide requisite training and convey institutional knowledge to new Information Technology staff members, primarily application developers. 

Research, identify and design innovative methods, processes, and solutions for data management and application integration requirements by transforming new and increasingly demanding information and security requirements into physical data models, structures, and integrated, complex designs.

Provide review and analysis of database security plans and development in support thereof. Participate in the planning and execution of Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans.

Provide technical leadership and integrate the work of the Data Base Administration supporting staff within IT.
