Transportation Specialist

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:

Coordinate shipments with mines, customers, railroads, terminals, and barge carriers, determining best transportation loading schedule, to insure peak financial performance, maximizing mine resources and minimizing cost while simultaneously ensuring customer contract quality is attained. Coordinate with Director & Manager Transportation as required. Serve as backup for other regions as designated by supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Coordinate shipments from designated operations and assist with export shipments.
• Communicate daily and monthly shipping schedules with customers and mining operations. Monitor and manage quality issues.
• Communicate with railroad management personnel operational or other non-routine problems.
• Coordinate with supervisor to address problems encountered and take advantage of market opportunities that arise, and meet the needs of customers and/or mine operations.
• Research, input, and manage data, produce routine and ad hoc reports, provide analysis and recommendations to staff resulting from investigation of general questions, potential problems or opportunities.
• Cross-train with Transportation Managers to become a secondary line of knowledge and expertise.
• Assist supervisor on special projects as required. Serve as company representative on various industry-related committees. Requires attending meetings and participating in round-table discussions.

MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in relevant area
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Must be strong analytically and be able to use thinking and reasoning to resolve a problem or explore an opportunity
• Must be available to respond 24/7 as needed
• Strong personal computer experience with proficiency in word processing, excel, and e-mail applications
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent customer care demeanor: willingness to listen, understanding customer needs, motived to fix problems for short and long-term results
• Ability to travel up to 5% of time

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• 3+ years of transportation management experience specifically related to coal
• Experience with Revenue Management Systems computer system
